Communication effectiveness for agricultural development a study based on banana growers of Vaishali district of Bihar

Abstract

Information and communication technologies have immense potential to accelerate development. But widespread urban orientation has deprived rural areas and poor farmers from taking advantage of information and communication technologies (ICT). There was great progress in the fields of science; medicine etc. in the twentieth century, yet in the first decade of the 21st century, the goal of sustainable development is out of reach due to worldwide poverty, food shortage, malnutrition, diseases and severe destruction of the environment. In many developing countries, agriculture is still the pillar of the economy. Therefore, it can be said that modernization of agriculture is necessary so that hunger and poverty can be reduced. Our success in the 21st century will depend on this. It speeds up the development process but due to the digital divide in India, its benefits are limited to cities. Rural areas are still deprived of this. Therefore, there is a need to adopt a comprehensive approach in collecting and distributing information. It is necessary to listen to the villagers and give them information. They know the local problem better. A new scientific perspective can be created in their traditional knowledge. For example, they can be given information about agronomy through websites, radio and television. One can be warned of dangerous pesticides. India has made great progress in the IT sector and now the time has come to expand it to the rural areas of India.
